Mauritius climbs to 6th place in the ranking of the 10 best countries for retirement.   

The retirementsansfrontieres.fr site has been establishing for 10 years a top 10 countries in which to retire, published by the magazine Capital, according to 12 criteria such as the cost of living, real estate, medical care, gastronomy or cultural offer.

More than one million French retirees live abroad. If this choice is above all personal, some countries attract more than others. Here are those favored by retirees.

The Covid epidemic has not dampened all desires to retire outside of France. For the tenth year, the site retraitessansfrontieres.fr has compiled the ranking of the best countries in which to retire, which Capital reveals to you in preview. To achieve this top 10, the founder of this site, Paul Delahoutre, bases himself on 12 criteria such as the cost of living, the value of real estate, medical care, but also cultural heritage and gastronomy.

These criteria are weighted according to their importance. Thus, the cost of living represents 20% of the final grade, the climate 15% and the infrastructure 5%. To determine a score for each of these criteria, meetings were organized with future retirees to find out their motivations and their obstacles to retiring abroad. At the same time, a questionnaire was sent to 176 retirees wishing to go abroad in order to understand why they consider such and such a country as “a paradise for their retirement”.

If there is no real surprise in this ranking, Paul Delahoutre notes however that the Covid has changed the situation a little. “European countries come before the others, he notes. With the Covid, retirees want to be sure that they can easily return to France but also that they will benefit from a good healthcare system”.
